Welcome to Safer Homes, Stronger Communities, the companion website for the Handbook for Reconstructing after Natural Disasters. The site aims to foster a community of practice around the subject of post-disaster housing and community reconstruction.
Experience demonstrates that housing and community reconstruction entails a complex series of interrelated decisions that, taken together, will directly affect the lives of those who have been touched by the disaster for years to come. The handbook has been written to assist World Bank staff, the Bank's counterparts in government, and others to make these decisions. The web site is intended to provide a forum that will contribute to these efforts and help improve them over time.
